Mark and Konekt

Life changed by injury

An injury while working in the military had long-lasting effects for Mark.

Despite working in a different role, he found he could not physically do what was required of him.

He was also unable to continue his long-term hobby of competitive ten pin bowling, which compounded the strain of his unemployment.

This affected him, and eventually his home life.

“It put a lot of strain on family” Mark recalled.

Keen to return to the workforce, he reached out for support from Konekt.

Konekt is Australia’s largest private sector provider of organisational health and risk management solutions and a national provider of employment and mental health services.

With 30 years of experience delivering workplace health and occupational health and safety services to industry and the community, Mark was confident they would help him find the right fit.

Tom from Konekt helped support Mark on his journey back to employment, encouraging him all the way through the process.

“He’d ring me out of the blue just to ask how I was feeling and also encouraging me to make sure I’d turn up to my appointments and consider certain avenues” Mark said.

A new lease on life

Through this process, Konekt identified Mark had some great transferrable skills and experiences which would make him an asset to the Canberra team.

He is responsible for delivering the work, health and safety representative training in Canberra.

“Mark has been an amazing asset to the team” Konekt Area Manager Ryan said.

“He brings a level of expertise that we didn’t have before, and with his knowledge of work, health and safety.”

Returning to work has given Mark a positive personal boost, reigniting his purpose and improving his overall wellness.

His role accommodates his ability, with tailored working hours and adjusted tasks to work around his injury and mobility.

“Having the support of Konekt as a whole has been really good” Mark said.
