Changing her path
For Nini, the COVID-19 pandemic was an especially difficult time for her professionally.
After unfortunately losing her job, she was overcome by uncertainty about what she wanted her next career move to be.
"I lost my job, and I was unemployed, trying to figure out which direction I wanted to go in my career pathway," Nini said.
She was referred to Grant Associates for assistance, and what went on to happen next for her prompted Nini to say it was one of the best decisions she's ever made.
After connecting with case manager Andreé, she found the right person to help her navigate this difficult period.
Case managers like Andreé help clients enrol in training courses, and access local support services, including childcare.
Helping her community
Nini describes Andreé as very encouraging.
From the beginning, she was on Nini's side, wanting to identify and work through what was blocking her from taking her next step.
All to give her the best start in her next career move.
"She literally held my hand through every process and step," Nini said.
They worked together to uncover what Nini was passionate about and they found she was passionate about food.
Nini applied for the culinary job training, to begin her training as a chef at the D.C. Central Kitchen.
She was elated to be accepted and took to her training with so much enthusiasm she got top graduating marks.
She loves her work as a chef with the D.C. Central Kitchen.
"I'm glad to be able to graduate and do what I love, and at the same time, be able to contribute to my community," Nini said.
