- After finishing his accounting degree, Alistair approached APM for support through the interview process to find a professional job
- APM continue to support Alistair throughout his employment, organising Autism Awareness Training for Alistair and the KPMG team
Support with interview skills helps Alistair on his path to success.
Alistair used to walk past the APM Norwood office near Adelaide’s CBD, on his way to his casual job.
He was nearing the end of his accounting degree and approached the staff in the Norwood office one day, to chat about how APM could support him.
After he had finished his degree Alistair visited the Norwood team again, searching for assistance to locate full-time employment.
He had been unsuccessful at numerous interviews for graduate positions, not making it past the phone call screening stage of the interview process.
As a result, his confidence had taken a hit and Alistair had decided it would be better to address his autism in his applications instead of later, at the interview stage.
The Norwood team trialled sending a supporting letter that accompanied Alistair’s resume and highlighted employability; it outlined his strengths, quirks, and the support available to potential employers.
Alistair worked with most of the team members at the Norwood office to curate a strong resume, personalise his many applications and to build his interview skills.
He was hired by KPMG, his most-preferred employer in mid-2021.
“Without your (APM’s) intensive help with interviews, I wouldn’t have this job” Alistair said.
Alistair passed his six-month probation and is now researching how to finance a home for himself.
APM’s support to Alistair and his employer continues, with his feedback from supervisors being worked through in his post-placement support appointments APM are currently working on an Autism Awareness Training, tailored for Alistair’s managers and peers.
