We KAAN’s inaugural quiz night a resounding success for community inclusion

On the 10th of December, the Kwinana All Abilities Network (We KAAN) hosted their first community inclusion event – a lively quiz night at Ken Jackman Hall in Kwinana.

The even garnered substantial support from various community organisations including the APMC Community Capacity Building team, People with Disabilities WA, and The City of Kwinana.

The quiz night was also a celebration of International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

We KAAN member Peggy set a positive tone for the evening with a welcoming speech, emphasising the importance of social inclusion for people with disability.

She highlighted the crucial need for everyone to feel accepted at community events.

The turnout was impressive, with nearly 70 attendees, many of whom benefited from the various accessibility features available, including the quiet sensory space provided by APM.

The night unfolded with a blend of fun, laughter, engaging activities, and great prizes.

Participants enjoyed four rounds of quiz questions, team-building challenges, and bonus trivia rounds focused on raising awareness for people with disabilities.

Prizes, including cash rewards of up to $100, goodie baskets, and chocolates, were presented to community members.

Even the team at the bottom of the leader board received a humorous consolation prize – a bag of lemons, adding a touch of light-heartedness to the event.

Community members shared glowing reviews, expressing genuine feelings of inclusion and appreciation for the meticulous attention to accessibility needs.

We KAAN successfully achieved its goal of hosting an inclusive social event.

We KAAN holds monthly meetings in Kwinana and extends a warm welcome to new members. For those interested in getting involved, contact isabella.tanti@apm.net.au or join the We KAAN Facebook group for more information.
