A league of their own

The APM South Australian National Football League (SANFL) Inclusive League is a senior men’s competition for those with an intellectual disability.

Each season takes place between May and September. The 2022 season had more than 150 male players, aged 15 and above with an intellectual disability, don their boots for 14 rounds plus finals.

The league offers regular, competitive football to inclusive teams in a safe, fun and friendly environment.

The focus is on the development of players and their social inclusion at community football clubs.

Kicking goals for inclusion, community

Since the league's inception in 2018, APM have partnered the SANFL inclusive league as a naming rights sponsor.

After their first full season in 2019, the inclusive league evolved from the former successful C7 competition run by Adelaide Footy League.

The league's seven teams include: Christies Beach, Athelstone, the Goodwood Saints, Kenilworth, Kilburn, Salisbury and Tea Tree Gully.

The competition has expanded and aims to increase participation in local clubs and gateways for inclusion.

APM currently support the Inclusive League as the naming rights sponsor and is assisting in the development of a club inclusion guide.

In addition, APM sponsor of the South Australia state team who participate in the National AFL Inclusion League Carnival.

Supporting our superstars

Employment Services CEO Karen Rainbow said APM are dedicated to opening doors and helping change attitudes so more people with disability can play sport and increase their fitness and social participation.

“Everyone has a right to enjoy sport, get fit and make new friends,” Ms Rainbow said.

“We all have a role to play in breaking down barriers and making Australia more inclusive, and APM is once again very pleased to support the league.”
