Support to keep going

Kirol is a mother of two who had started on her next steps towards employment.

On her journey, she found not having her driver’s license was a barrier she needed some additional support to acquire.

She approached APM and received support through the ParentsNext program.

ParentsNext is an Australian government program delivered by APM in Queensland, South Australia and Victoria.

The program is aimed at supporting parents with young children to reach their employment goals while balancing their family commitments.

For Kirol, it was building her confidence behind the wheel so she could find a job to make a better life for her and her family in Cairns.

Building confidence

“APM staff were very helpful and kind towards my request” Kirol said.

Her parent and family pathway planner Rhiannon was able to arrange a series of driving lessons to get her started.

“When I first met Kirol, she’d already commenced her Cert III in Community Services” Rhiannon recalls.

“She has a passion for helping the youth and wanting to give back to the community.”

Rhiannon describes Kirol as on the way to being successful when she met her.

Kirol completed the upcycle course with Centacare to up-skill while she worked on getting confident behind the wheel.

Her driving instructor Howard reflects positively on her progress as she continues to work towards her provisional license.

“She’s quite confident… we’re progressing really well” he said.
