Nariah and APM Employment Services

Nariah steers her life in the right direction

Nariah was dealing with anxiety and struggling financially.

But when she sat down with the Transition to Work team at APM Employment Services, her Youth Support Worker, Christine started by getting to know her and listening to her aspirations, and her life began to change.

Nariah looks back, "If it wasn't for the program, I wouldn't have hit one of my main goals in life, and that's truck driving.

"So, I've definitely done it. And, yeahit's the best thing that’s happened to me."

It wasn’t a simple thing to achieve, as Gavin, her employer at Cleanaway, points out, "There are a few qualifications that you need to get before you can come on board with Cleanaway, such as Heavy Vehicle Driver’s Licence.

"That can be quite challenging for the younger generation."

APM is much more than just finding a jobIt’s holistic support throughout the job-seeking journey.

Says Nariah, "APM was able to pay for the whole licence and help me with my uniform, which was fantastic."

Nariah can’t thank Christine enough, "She’s definitely a role model to me and she’s helped me through pretty well a hard point in my life and come out on the other end good."

Christine explains the APM approach to the Transition to Work service, "Supporting the youth in our community is not just about finding them employment.

"It’s about changing the way they think about the world. And something they would never have thought of is achievable, can be achievable."
