Guidance helps Jin regain control of her life

With the right support Jin felt capable to return to work

Jin reached out to the APM Campsie office in south-west Sydney during May of 2020.

Her Employment Consultant Lucinda observed that Jin was experiencing low self-esteem and anxiety. These struggles with her mental health also affected her motivation in day-to-day life.

Additionally, she was having difficulties communicating as English is not her first language. Jin also explained she was having financial issues and struggling to make ends meet each day due to a gambling problem.

When COVID-19 lockdowns continued to affect Sydney, Jin was stood down from her job.

“At the time, she described herself as unwilling to work and I wanted to her to have the best possible chance at success” Lucinda said

“To help her feel more confident navigating daily life while dealing with an addiction, I referred her to Gambling Counselling Services.”

Gambling Counselling Services provided Jin with guidance and direction to overcome and cope with these issues.

Lucinda outlined the benefits of working such as lowering her stress levels, improving her financial situation, and enabling her to pay back debt.

By addressing these issues, Lucinda could determine how APM could readily assist Jin to prepare for employment and improve her life.

When looking into her employment history, Jin had many years of experience as a sewing machinist which she was keen to pursue again.

Lucinda began marketing Jin to Chinese speaking employers within the industry. It didn’t take long for her to negotiate a paid work trial with a local curtain making employer.

Before her work trial, Lucinda coached Jin to on how to present well during an interview and at work, along with refreshing her on key competences of her role.

With her new-found confidence Jin was offered the role, and successfully secured employment.

Even while navigating personal difficulties or financial uncertainty it is possible to achieve your goals.

Finding work helped Jin feel more capable and in control of her life and has empowered her to continue with the positive changes she has started to make.

Congratulations, Jin!
