When Chris decided to move back to his hometown of Benalla in Victoria, he knew he would need a local job.
Joining his local APM Employment Services team, Chris immediately made a good impression with his employment consultant Janelle, who quickly noticed his enthusiasm for finding a good job.
Working with Janelle, Chris was able to create a new resume that showcased his skills, interests and previous experience.
A key standout for Janelle was Chris’s willingness to learn new skills with a new employer.
Working closely with local employers in Benalla, Janelle was able to match Chris to a role at the nearby Benalla Tourist Park. When it came time to meet his employers, Chris was prepared and impressed them with his eagerness to learn and enthusiasm for the job.
“Chris won out against much more experienced interviewees because he showed honesty and respect,” said Janelle.
“Benalla Tourist Park knew they could train Chris because he was willing to learn, and they could see he was someone they could trust.”
Chris started in his new job in the park’s maintenance team in February this year and as part of his APM Employment Services program still has regular contact with Janelle.
“Chris recently said it’s the best and most supportive place he has ever worked in,” Janelle added.
His employer at the park is also delighted to have Chris on board.
“We are extremely happy with Chris's work ethic and his ability to learn new tasks. He has been a fantastic addition to our team and we look forward to him having a long and rewarding career here at Benalla Tourist Park,” said Park Administration Manager, Julie Barwick.
Despite the ongoing challenges of COVID-19 Chris has maintained his employment at the park and has increased his work commitments to include working at a park venue.
Chris was supported by APM through the Disability Employment Services program which assists job seekers living with an injury, disability or health condition to find suitable work.
As part of his individual job plan with the program Chris was able to gain support to enable him to find employment despite the challenge of learning difficulties and anxiety.
