Self-Employment Assistance program

APM and the Young Entrepreneurs Showcase are offering young people the opportunity to build and grow their business through the Self-Employment Assistance program.

You get support to set up, develop and grow your small business, with access to workshops, business planning and access to professional mentors.

The 12-month program is free and tailored to your eligible business idea with a range of training and coaching options to suit you.

All with the goal of giving you and your business the best possible start.

The program can help you:

  • Workshop a business idea
  • Create a business plan and develop your business skills
  • Gain accredited training in small business*
  • Access business coaching from experienced and local experts in a range of industries

Who can apply?

  • Job seekers not currently employed or studying more than 25 hours per week - you do not need to be on income support payments.
  • Young people aged 15 and older who are eligible to work in Australia to access Exploring Self-Employment Workshops and Training Options. Or aged 18 or older for access to Small Business Coaching.
  • Young people who can legally work in Australia and who are not on a working holiday visa or are an overseas student studying in Australia.
  • Young people who can participate in Self-Employment Assistance training and work full-time in their proposed business.
  • People who are not an undischarged bankrupt.
  • People who have not participated in Self-Employment Assistance or Small Business Assistance with NEIS in the past year.
  • Are any other person or persons that the Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business advises as being eligible in writing from time to time.
