The Eastern Park Demons SANFL team cheer for the camera

Saturday 4 September delivered a history-making win for the Eastern Park Demons, over the weekend.

In a game about as close as they come, Eastern Park claimed victory by just one point (34) against Kenilworth (33).

The South Australian National Football League (SANFL) Inclusive League celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The SANFL APM Inclusive League is a competition integrated into local community clubs for males aged 15 and over with an intellectual disability.

The focus of the League is on the development of players and their inclusion at their local clubs, offering players with a disability a fun, safe and welcoming environment.

The League had five teams competing in 2021: Christies Beach, Eastern Park, Goodwood Saints, Kenilworth and Salisbury.

APM have sponsored the league since 2018 and will continue this sponsorship into the 2022 season.

“We’ve had a fantastic community partnership with the SANFL for three seasons now” said Karen Rainbow, CEO of APM Employment Services.

“Supporting the development of friendships, changing of attitudes towards people with disability and building team spirit in the league is something we are proud of.”

“Everyone can make valuable contributions to their community” Ms Rainbow said.

Participation in local clubs and accessible events are gateways of inclusion for people with disability in their community – on the field and off it.

Disability is one part of diversity and with their strengths and passion many people with disability make valuable contributions club life.

Regardless of what interest the club’s focus is on there are many roles within an organisation’s structure where people from diverse backgrounds can included.

There are many jobs or positions that exist within all clubs that are essential for club operation and success. These include being a player, volunteer, committee, or social member.

This helps create a better connected, engaged and strong community.

Congratulations, Eastern Park!
