Apprenticeships typically run for 3 to 4 years, while traineeships are usually completed in 1 to 2 years. Both offer flexible, hands-on learning that benefits your business from the start.

Employer Incentives

Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) 

The Key Apprenticeship Program contains two streams:

  • New Energy Apprenticeship stream
  • Housing Construction Apprenticeship stream

The KAP payment is available to eligible Australian Apprentices in the new energy and housing construction occupations that are:

  • linked to a qualification listed on the Priority List
  • defined as a KAP eligible occupation 
  • providing meaningful exposure, experience, and work in the clean energy or housing construction sector

KAP provides financial support of up to $5,000 in the first year of an apprenticeship.

Payments are made according to the following schedule and rates:

  • Full-time: $2,000 at 6 months and $3,000 at 12 months
  • Part-time: $1,000 at 6 months and $1,500 at 12 months


Priority Hiring Incentive

Available for employers of new or recommencing Australian Apprentices in Certificate III or above qualifications listed on the Priority List.

  • Full-time: $1,000 at 6 months, $1,500 at 12 months 
  • Part-time: $500 at 6 months, $750 at 12 months


Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support (DAAWS)

Financial support is available for employers who hire an eligible apprentice with disability undertaking a Certificate II qualification or higher.

Current DAAWS funding:

  • $226.01 per week (indexed annually in line with CPI)
  • Paid in arrears to employers for apprentices who meet the disability eligibility criteria


Group Training Organisation (GTO) Reimbursement Program

The GTO Reimbursement Program ended to new entrants on 30 April 2026.

It offered a payment to GTO's hosting apprentices in Priority List qualifications with SMEs that haven’t hosted apprentices in the past two years.
