Telford teenagers meet supportive MP

Telford MP, Lucy Allan has lent her support to a group of teenagers embarking upon the summer of a lifetime through the National Citizen Service (NCS).

The MP met with a host of young people who have signed up to NCS programmes throughout July and August, which are being delivered by APM.

As part of their experience, the group will volunteer 30 hours of time to work on community projects that matter to them.

Lucy Allen, said: "Meeting with these young people, it was clearly apparent how much the scheme has benefited all those taking part.

"Everyone I spoke to was enthusiastic about the scheme and proud of the work they had done and skills they had learnt.

"Teenagers in Telford are fortunate to have an NCS scheme right on their doorstep!"

National Citizen Service is available to those aged 16 and 17 and because of government support costs no more than £50.00 to undertake which covers accommodation and food for two weeks.

Extra support is available for those whose parents are on lower incomes.

Telford teenager, Evlynn Turner, has already benefited from the experience: "Our University residential changed my mind completely, I never thought I was good enough.

"I am now going to study engineering to begin with then go into the RAF as an officer, NCS has shown me we are all good enough!"
