Christina's journey from homelessness to hope

For more than 11 years, Christina struggled with unemployment, homelessness, and overwhelming caring responsibilities.

Her health suffered, leading to dental issues, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The barriers to employment seemed insurmountable.

That was until she met Bee from her local APM Employment Services team.

Bee provided a safe and supportive environment for Christina to share her story.

Through a detailed assessment, they identified Christina's strengths and barriers, and built a personalised plan as part of the Workforce Australia support.

Immediate support was provided to access secure housing and mental health services, ensuring Christina wasn't overwhelmed by tackling one obstacle at a time.

With Bee's help, Christina updated her resume, highlighting her prior experience and transferable skills.

Together they prepared for interviews and what sort of jobs Christina could do to get back to the workforce and be a success.

When she was referred to a Customer Service Attendant position at KFC, Christina's determination to make a positive change paid off as she cleared the interview and secured the role.

Bree’s support didn’t stop there. She helped Bree access funds for protective gear and a mobile phone, alongside regular post-placement support for both Christina and her employer.

Christina's life has transformed dramatically.

“When I first came to APM, I didn't even possess a resume. I was gripped with fear and lacked confidence.

“Your support extended to providing me with essentials like food and fuel, ensuring my safety during those tough times.

“From having nothing, I've now secured a fantastic job and am on track to become a manager.”

Since starting her new job, Christina's self-confidence has soared.

APM continues to support her in achieving her goals, including dental work to help her regain confidence in her smile.

As she approaches a year of employment, Christina looks forward to advancing her career, with aspirations to oversee her own store in the future.

Christina's success story, even featured in the local newspaper. She told the Busselton and Dunsborough Mail, “Bee was incredibly supportive, truly taking time to prioritise my needs. Every time I visited her, it made such a difference.

“Having someone to listen meant the world. It was like having a friend I could rely on.”

Today Christina looks forward to advancing her career, with aspirations to oversee her own store in the future.
