Emmanuel’s journey to employment success with APM Redfern

When Emmanuel first walked through the doors of APM Redfern, he was a young job seeker with big dreams but limited options.

Having left school at 17 and with only informal experience helping in his family’s painting business, Emmanuel was eager to work.

But without a driver’s licence or formal qualifications, the road ahead looked uncertain.

His goal was to become a security guard, but age restrictions meant he couldn’t begin training just yet.

Rather than wait, Emmanuel took a proactive step and joined Workforce Australia with APM Employment Services, determined to build the skills and confidence he needed to succeed.

With the guidance of Employment Consultant, Khalil, Emmanuel began exploring entry-level roles that would help him gain valuable experience.

Together, they practised interview techniques, polished his resume, and reached out to local employers.

Khalil also supported Emmanuel in earning his First Aid certificate and provided fuel vouchers to help him attend interviews and job trials - small but crucial steps that made a big difference.

A major turning point came when Emmanuel earned his red P-plates, giving him the independence to travel further for work.

Business Development Manager, Mas, used APM’s employer network to help Emmanuel land a full-time role at Real Dairy Production.

That experience opened new doors, and Emmanuel has since moved into a new position with Marvel Blinds, where he continues to grow professionally.

Reflecting on his journey, Emmanuel shared: “We had a few hurdles to jump along the way, but I am very grateful for my Employment Consultant Khalil for being so persistent with finding me full-time employment which has allowed me greater independence as a young adult entering the workforce.”

Now with growing experience, confidence, and a positive mindset, Emmanuel is well on his way to achieving his goal.
