APM Employment Services participant, Luka, has been recognised nationally for her resilience, determination, and personal growth.
Luka is a finalist in for the Achiever of the Year award at the 2025 NESA Awards for Excellence.
Luka recognised for journey of courage and transformation
The awards celebrate outstanding contributions across the employment services sector, recognising professionals, employers, and job seekers who have demonstrated innovation, resilience, and impact in advancing employment inclusion.
Luka first connected with APM Deniliquin, following a period of profound personal hardship.
She had recently completed a rehabilitation program and was navigating the emotional challenges of separation from her young son, health concerns, and the aftermath of a difficult relationship.
Despite these barriers, Luka showed up with quiet determination to rebuild her life.
Through the Workforce Australia program, Luka received trauma-informed support tailored to her needs.
She engaged in counselling, completed customer service training, and took on her first job in cleaning to re-establish routine and confidence.
Her long-term goal was clear: to work in healthcare and help others.
With guidance from her APM employment consultant and her own unwavering commitment, Luka secured a receptionist role at Local Dental Deniliquin.
Her initiative and professionalism quickly led to a promotion to Dental Assistant - a role that aligned with her aspirations.
She is now studying a Certificate III in Dental Assisting while continuing to thrive in her workplace.
Luka’s employer describes her as a valued team member who brings warmth, reliability, and a collaborative spirit to the clinic.
Her journey has also brought personal transformation as she now enjoys unsupervised visits with her son, attends his sports events, and is building a future filled with purpose and pride.
Luka’s journey highlights the power of compassionate support and the strength of the human spirit.
