Career progression has Rochelle at the forefront of People and Culture at APM.
From 3 July – 10 July 2022, we celebrate NAIDOC week.
In 2022 we are invited to 'Get up! Stand up! Show up!' as allies and supporters of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today, and in our shared future.
As part of celebrating NAIDOC week 2022, APM People and Culture Coordinator Rochelle shares her journey.
A proud Worimi woman, Rochelle’s heritage comes from the Worimi people, whose lands are near Port Stephens and the Great Lakes regions of coastal New South Wales (NSW).
She previously worked for NSW Health for 24 years and brought her decades of knowledge and experience to APM in February 2021.
Education and sharing of culture are of great importance to Rochelle.
Her Grandfather passed away when her mother was just nine years old, her family’s culture was thought to be lost for several years. Through the generations of her family, they are actively learning more about their heritage.
“My own children participate within the Aboriginal program on a weekly basis within their school, learning their culture and heritage. The development over the years is now allowing young indigenous children the access to explore and maintain their heritage” she said.
When asked how the NAIDOC theme of 'Get up! Stand up! Show up!' is reflected to her lived experiences, she said.
“I feel that my journey within APM over the past 18 months reflects this perfectly.”
“And due to APM being an orientated organisation it rings true, as if I did not 'Get up! Stand up and Show up!' I would not have been given these wonderful opportunities within the APM company.”
After initially starting her journey with APM as an Employment Consultant, Rochelle has been promoted multiple times into senior and management roles.
In early July Rochelle started in her new role as People and Culture Coordinator, describing it as “a wonderful opportunity in which I have been given, not only to have a position, but also gain further skills and upskill.”
“APM as a company believe within their staff and their goals. The support is always there for you to achieve your goals” she added.
In her role, Rochelle will help drive a range of key Human Resource functions. She will support recruitment, onboarding, learning, diversity, policy review, as well as key strategic initiatives.

With beginnings which can be traced back to the 1920s, NAIDOC’s mission is as strong as ever today to promote the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
During NAIDOC week, we highlight the contributions and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our community through their work and sharing of culture.
