Michael's back on the road with new skills and confidence

Michael, a seasoned truck driver with over 40 years of experience, faced an unexpected career break due to serious health issues, including a heart operation and a diabetes diagnosis.

Despite these challenges, Michael's optimism and determination to return to work never faltered.

When Michael first joined the Career Transition Assistance program at APM Corio, he arrived without a resume or cover letter, unsure of where to begin.

Then he met Training Facilitator Cecile.

Cecile quickly identified areas where Michael needed support, particularly in developing his computer skills.

The CTA program is available for job seekers aged 45 or over who need support updating their skills and finding new opportunities.

Determined to succeed, Michael's dedication shone through as he stayed back after class for extra one-on-one assistance with job research and applications.

Still passionate about working behind the wheel, Michel focused his efforts on driving jobs.

Michael's hard work paid off.

On the final day of the CTA program, he received an offer from a traffic management company.

It was a huge confidence boost for the 65-year-old but Michael wasn’t done, he continued his job search and soon received another offer from Cartage Australia, a trucking company.

He chose to accept the truck driving job, securing employment in a role he truly loves.

"You gotta come to this class – this class is really cool and it was a great five weeks," Michael says behind a beaming smile.

He said he was grateful for the assistance from Cecile and the CTA program, adding, "Because of this course, I have learned to develop basic computer skills, I have a resume, and I found a job."

Michael's story is a shining example of the positive impact training, personal development, and employment success can have on people facing challenges.
