Chrissy's new confidence at Club Hotel

At APM, we believe in the power of perseverance and the transformative impact of employment.

Chrissy's story is a shining example of how our Disability Employment Services (DES) program can help people overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

Chrissy first arrived at APM in Malanda determined to re-enter the workforce after a long period of unemployment.

Living in a small rural town with limited job opportunities, Chrissy faced significant anxiety about returning to work.

Additionally, she lives with a spinal disorder and chronic back pain, which added to her challenges.

Upon joining the DES program at APM, Chrissy worked closely with her employment consultant, Lauren, to identify roles that matched her skills and physical needs.

Chrissy and Lauren from APM

Through targeted support, Chrissy built the confidence needed for face-to-face interviews.

Lauren also reached out to potential employers who could offer a supportive working environment.

In a pivotal moment, Lauren arranged a trial for Chrissy as a kitchen hand at the Club Hotel Ravenshoe.

Lauren accompanied Chrissy to the trial, providing additional support and encouragement.

It didn’t take long for Chrissy to find her feet in the role and with her hard work and determination, her employers were quick to invite her to officially join the Club Hotel’s kitchen team.

As part of the DES program, Lauren from APM helped Chrissy’s new employers access a wage subsidy and continued to provide regular post-placement support to both Chrissy and her employer.

Today, Chrissy is thriving in her new role.

She has built strong relationships with her co-workers and received positive feedback from her chef.

Chrissy feels "really good" about her achievements, and her increased confidence and sense of fulfilment shine through.

At APM, we are committed to promoting disability inclusion and making a positive impact in the local community.

Chrissy's journey shows the power of support, determination, and the right opportunities.
