To help him take the next step, APM connected Adam with counselling support through the Back2Work program.
During this process, Adam shared that he was experiencing homelessness and severe anxiety after leaving a family situation involving domestic violence.
With Adam's permission, the information was shared with his APM team so they could provide the right support.
Employment Consultant Anna worked closely with Adam to help him address the barriers standing between him and employment.
Finding safe and affordable accommodation was the first priority.
While housing options were limited, Adam was eventually able to move into temporary accommodation at a local caravan park.
APM helped cover his initial accommodation costs with support to purchase essential items, including a mattress, sleeping bag and pillow.
Food vouchers also helped him settle into his new living arrangements.
Although recommendations were made to reduce his job search requirements because of his circumstances, Adam wanted to keep moving forward.
He was focused on finding work and creating positive change in his life.
Recognising Adam's determination, Anna reached out directly to local employers to find an opportunity where he could succeed.
One local service station was willing to give Adam a chance.
After discussing his strengths and circumstances with the employer, a trial position was arranged.
Adam quickly adapted to the role and began building new skills as a petrol attendant.
With support from APM, including a wage subsidy to assist the employer, the trial soon led to ongoing employment.
As Adam settled into the job, his confidence continued to grow.
His hours increased, he completed training across all areas of the business and became comfortable working independently.
He built strong relationships with customers and developed the confidence to make decisions in his role without needing regular guidance.
Throughout his employment journey, Anna stayed in regular contact through phone calls, appointments and workplace visits to make sure Adam had the support he needed.
The results have been life changing.
Adam has secured stable accommodation, maintained long-term employment and created a strong foundation for the future.
His employer has even identified future opportunities for growth within the business.
Adam said the support from APM made a genuine difference and that he would not have been able to move forward and grow as a person without it.
His story shows how practical support, employer partnerships and personal determination can help people overcome significant barriers to employment.
