Harrison's career takes off with airport role after Workforce Australia support

When Harrison first walked into APM’s Strathfield office in January 2024, he brought with him a clear goal and a quiet determination.

With a forklift licence in hand and a passion for warehousing, he was ready to find a job that could offer him stability and growth.

But like many job seekers, Harrison faced a few hurdles.

Harrison had no hands-on forklift experience and needed a role that could accommodate his responsibilities as a carer for his elderly grandmother.

That’s where APM and employment consultant Sarwat stepped in with support through Workforce Australia.

Taking the time to understand Harrison’s skills, aspirations, and personal commitments, Sarwat worked closely with him to find the right opportunity.

While Harrison was focused on forklift driving, Sarwat encouraged him to consider a laundry assistant role at Specialised Linen Services.

It was an opportunity that had potential and Harrison agreed to the interview.

It turned out to be a turning point.

Impressed by his attitude and licence, the employer offered him a position in the storeroom - with the chance to operate the forklift.

With funds for a new uniform and ongoing support from Sarwat, Harrison embraced the role and quickly proved himself.

Six months later, Harrison proudly shared the news with Sarwat: he had landed his ideal job as a forklift driver at Sydney Airport.

The experience he gained at Specialised Linen Services had been the perfect launchpad, giving him the confidence and skills to take the next big step in his career.

Now thriving in his new role and no longer needing employment support, Harrison is excited about what lies ahead.

He credits APM and Sarwat for helping him turn a hopeful goal into a fulfilling reality.

Harrison’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right support, the right attitude, and a little flexibility, great things can happen.
