Katrina's comeback after 20 year break from work

After nearly 20 years away from the workforce, Katrina wasn’t sure where to begin.

Living with anxiety and facing a limited employment history, she arrived at APM Caringbah with a goal — and a lot of uncertainty.

But with the right support through Workforce Australia and the compassionate guidance of her APM employment consultant, Linda, Katrina’s life took a remarkable turn.

Linda met her with empathy and patience, starting with small, achievable goals to help rebuild her self-esteem and confidence.

Together, they created a personalised plan to help Katrina achieve her goals, which included connecting with counselling services to support her mental health.

As Katrina’s confidence grew, she shared her goal of becoming a waitress.

Linda helped her prepare — from practising how to carry plates to learning how to serve customers.

When an opportunity came up at JD’s Restaurant at Woolooware Golf Club, Katrina was ready.

She aced the interview and a work trial, and shortly after proudly stepped into her first job in two decades.

To ensure Katrina had everything she needed to succeed, Linda helped her access funds for work clothing and necessary certificates.

And Katrina didn’t stop there.

A while later she landed a second job at Sista Gin, JD’s sister restaurant.

Today, she’s thriving — her anxiety has eased, her confidence has soared, and she’s loving her work.

Grateful for the support she received, Katrina shared a heartfelt thank you with Linda and left a glowing review for APM Caringbah:

“I wish I could give 100 stars — 5 is not enough. The change in my life since transferring to APM has been indescribable. I’ve been to so many employment agencies in the past and never felt truly comfortable.

“Linda is so professional, and I now call her a mentor and life-changer! Linda is the reason I am now working after 20 years.

“Thank you, Linda, for all your support, guidance and life changing advice.”

Katrina’s story is a powerful reminder that with the right support, it’s never too late to start again.

She’s now looking forward to continuing her career in hospitality and inspiring others who may be facing similar challenges.
