Lisa finds the steps and confidence to a new community role

When Lisa walked into APM's Earlville office, she wasn't ready to talk about jobs.

She was carrying a difficult personal situation that had left her feeling uncertain about her future and disconnected from any sense of career direction.

What she needed first was someone to listen.

That person was APM Employment Consultant Kasey.

Rather than jumping straight into resumes and job applications, Kasey slowed things down.

Their early meetings were built around conversation.

Lisa shared what she was going through, and together they began to untangle the barriers that were making it hard to move forward.

That trust became the foundation for everything that followed in the Workforce Australia support.

As Lisa grew more confident, Kasey introduced practical steps alongside the emotional support.

She helped Lisa obtain her Blue and Yellow Cards, provided uniforms and supplies, and kept in regular contact to check in on how she was going.

A fuel voucher helped Lisa get to where she needed to be.

Small gestures, but ones that mattered.

Through those ongoing conversations, something became clear.

Lisa had a strong desire to help others.

With that in mind, she and Kasey explored pathways in community services, working through the qualifications and steps needed to make it a reality.

"Kasey went above and beyond to ensure I had flexibility and assistance," Lisa said.

"Her understanding, compassion and dedication were evident in every interaction."

"These gestures made a real difference in getting back on my feet and successfully stepping into my new role."

Lisa has been thriving as a community support worker for more than six months.

Kasey has stayed in touch throughout, offering post-placement support to help Lisa settle in and feel confident in her new environment.

The shift in Lisa's outlook has been profound.

She has regained her confidence, feels proud to be a role model for her family, and has found a renewed sense of independence.

"Because of Kasey’s guidance and encouragement, I am now employed in a great job,” Lisa said.

"Her hard work has had a lasting impact on me and my family and I am deeply grateful for all that she has done."
