Lucia stirs up success in securing employment

Lucia arrived in Australia with dreams of a brighter future but faced a tough reality.

With her husband unable to work, a language barrier to overcome, and the responsibility of providing for her young family resting on her shoulders, the path ahead was daunting.

Lucia turned to APM's Earlville team, for help on her road to finding secure employment.

It was here she met Employment Consultant Michael who was fluent in Italian and was happy to support Lucia through the Workforce Australia system.

With his help, Lucia was able to gain the identification she needed and enrol in the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) to assist her in improving her English.

Lucia was very diligent with her classes, and her English improved significantly.

While Lucia completed her study, Michael supported her in creating a resume and starting her job search.

As Lucia had previous experience in food preparation, Michael suggested she reach out to her children’s school about any roles available.

Shortly after Lucia was invited for a work trial as a cook.

And after just a couple of shifts the school was eager for her to join them.

Having never worked in Australia before, Lucia needed some guidance with her employment paperwork, superannuation, and Centrelink reporting.

Michael and the team were on hand to provide this and also helped Lucia access the Employment Fund to buy appropriate work clothing and equipment needed for her job.

Michael, said, “With a secure job, secure income, and a new group of colleagues and friends, Lucia has gone from strength to strength. As a result, her English has improved, and she has even been able to purchase a car.”

Lucia’s journey from uncertainty to financial security and personal growth is an inspiration to anyone facing challenges in their employment search.
