Philip thrives in training and securing a new role

When Philip joined the Workforce Australia program at APM Queanbeyan, he was eager to find a job in retail or hospitality.

Motivated and ready to work, he applied for several roles.

But after receiving no callbacks, his confidence began to waver. The job search was proving tougher than expected.

Philip’s biggest hurdle was transportation.

Without a car or driver’s licence, many roles within his reach were simply out of reach.

On top of that, a shoulder injury meant he couldn’t take on physically demanding jobs. It was a frustrating situation for someone so ready to work.

That’s when he approached a different idea with APM’s support - traffic control.

It was a growing industry with high demand, and the physical requirements were a better match for Philip.

With his APM Employment Consultant Edally by his side, Philip embraced the new direction.

APM used its employment fund to enrol him in training with Master Builders, where he earned his traffic control and construction tickets.

Soon after, APM Business Development Manager Joe found a potential role with G & G Group.

Philip was nervous during the interview, and the employer had concerns about his ability to get to work on time as many of the shifts involved early starts.

But they were reassured when told Philip would get help with transport as part of his support from APM until he received his first paycheck.

Securing the role, Philip had help to cover taxi fares for the first two weeks, and from there, his new job took off.

He’s now thriving in his role, enjoying the work and the camaraderie of his team.

And his employer is impressed with his dedication and work ethic - plus Philip himself has become more confident and outgoing.

Philip continues to receive regular post-placement support from Edally, and his future is looking bright.

His story is a reminder the right opportunity is always within reach with the right support and dedication.
