Wicole is brewing great coffee and an even better future

Like many new mothers, Wicole found the thought of re-entering the workforce daunting.

But thanks to her own strong motivation and enthusiasm, and support from Workforce Australia, she’s landed a life-changing role in hospitality, and is now mastering the art of making great coffee.

When Wicole first entered the Workforce Australia program at APM South Melbourne, she was passionate about working in hospitality and was eager to rebuild her confidence and explore new opportunities.

But she faced some significant challenges.

With limited work history, gaps in vocational training, and English not being her first language, as well as her role as a dedicated caregiver to her child, shaping her availability, securing a suitable job felt difficult.

It all changed when APM identified an employment opportunity with Meals with Impact Foundation - a not-for-profit organisation supporting women of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

After a successful interview, Wicole secured the role of a Café Allrounder, with APM supporting her employment with a wage subsidy, post-placement support and a one-time food assistance payment.

With this job, Wicole has turned her life around.

She now has financial stability to support her family.

She has not only applied her transferable skills but also developed new ones she never thought possible at this stage in her life.

Since starting, Wicole has continued to grow and thrive in a job she genuinely enjoys.

One of her proudest achievements has been mastering the art of making coffee.

And who doesn’t love a good coffee!
